HISTORYCAL BACKGROUND

Reformasi (Reform) that took place in 1999 in Indonesia brought about positive impacts on the democratization process of media and broadcasting in Indonesia. This condition was then responded to by Internews Indonesia, an NGO, by creating a Media Law Department within its organization. Later in its development, the Media Law Department communicated a lot with many parties from various backgrounds, such as with the broadcasting industry, the press, media organizations, professional organizations, advertising organizations, universities, and executive, legislative and judicative bodies. The fast and dynamic development of media law was answered with the establishment of the Indonesia Media Law & Policy Centre as a centre for studies of media law and policies. From then on IMLPC has continuously contributed to and played its role in developing media law in Indonesia.

IMLPC’s Article of Association was created and lastly modified by Public Notary Dr. Irawan Soerodjo, SH, Number 131 dated 30 May 2000 and was registered at the District Court of Central Jakarta on 11 July 2002 under the Registration Number of Reg. 101/2002, was listed and recorded by the Department of Judicial Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia and was announced in the Additional State Gazette of the Republic of Indonesia dated 23 August 2002 Number 68. IMLPC’s Taxpayer’ Number (NPWP) is 02.191.896.8-071.000.
